Introductory Neuroimaging for Clinical Researchers - Pre Conference Course HBM2008

This course is an approved Satellite Meeting of Human Brain Mapping 2008 - the 14th Annual Meeting of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping in Melbourne, Australia.

Special discounted rates will be available to HBM 2008 conference delegates only.

If you are interested in participating in this course as a non-delegate of the HBM Conference - please refer to Clinical Neuroscience Research Short Courses 2008

Course Overview

A multi-disciplinary approach to clinical neuroscience research is essential for answering the current research questions using neuroimaging. The course focuses on introducing cutting-edge human brain imaging techniques in the context of specific clinical neuroscience research applications. The course introduces the basics concepts of imaging (ie PET, SPECT, functional and structural MRI, DWI and perfusion imaging etc.) to conference delegates and students less familiar with the field of Human Brain Mapping but who will benefit from a simple introduction prior to attending the more detailed conference sessions. More advanced neuroscience research techniques in brain imaging will be discussed in the context of current research in major functional disorders of the brain and mind.

Course participants will develop a clear understanding of the imaging techniques through interaction with multi-disciplinary expert researchers and peers. They will gain the confidence to design their own research project involving modern neuroimaging. They will gain the necessary skills to be able to critically evaluate the research literature that uses neuroimaging. They will gain an appreciation of how to develop a neuroimaging research project and be able to establish successfully a multi-disciplinary collaboration with experts in the field to conduct innovative clinical research.

Who should attend?

People currently involved or interested in clinical neurosciences research and who wish to gain a broad understanding of contemporary neuroimaging methodologies and how these can be used to elucidate clinical research questions.

The course will be particularly useful for medical and allied health clinicians, radiologists, behavioural scientists, psychologists, nurses and other researchers who have little or no prior practical experience with neuroimaging.

Expert Presenters

The course is offered by the University of Melbourne’s Centre of Clinical Research Excellence in Neurosciences in partnership with the Brain Research Institute.

All speakers are experts in their field and are experienced scientists or clinical researchers.
